Mikhaila Poitevin: Cheesecake. The one thing that I crave more than anything ever, is cheesecake.
My name is Mikhaila (aka Kitty in the gaming world) I'm a girl gamer, I've been a gamer since I was 9, and only just started doing it as a profession in 2012. I'm not just your everyday girl gamer though, I have a twist ;) I have something called Asperger's Syndrome, It's a form of autism but less extreme depending on the level. Mine isn't really noticeable unless I'm in an environment that I'm not used to, or just really stressed. But I don't let any of that stop me when it comes to the things I love most.
One of which is being able to talk with all my viewers, yes viewers. I don't just game for fun, I also do it for the sake of interacting with the amazing community of Twitch.tv :) I stream a wide range of video games from MMO's, RPG's, FPS, Simulators and much more. With a lot of streamers, It all started with Minecraft. (Minecraft is a sandbox independent video game originally created by Swedish programmer Markus "Notch" Person, and later developed, and published by the Swedish company Mojang since 2009.)
Then I moved on to LoL (League of Legends), BL2 (Borderlands 2), and Castle Crashers. In 2013 I got into a wider range of games, and started to learn more about the gaming community. I met amazing people from around the world online, and formed unbreakable friendships with many of them. Around midsummer 2014, I started to look into the gaming industry, and all the possible jobs available. My mother found out about a conference in Ottawa and called the OIGC (Ottawa International Game Conference), and I signed up as a photographer for said event.
There I got to meet the lovely Jillian Mood who brought the event to life with her beautiful smile, and warm heart. I got to talk to her a few times during the event, and she made me feel very much part of the whole thing, and with someone who has Asperger's, it's a pretty amazing feeling. I also got me meet the handsome Oscar Clark who's an author, consultant and evangelist for Everyplay from Unity Technologies. He's a very nice man that I was very lucky to meet, and I look forward to maybe working with in the future. At the event there was also well known companies, and schools in Canada like: Fuel, Microsoft, Magmic, Algonquin Collage, BitHeads and more.
I got to talk to most of the companies there, and got a lot of insight on the environment I wanted to get into. For the longest time after the event had past, I looked into joining the big companies as a (soon to be) game developer, but came to the realization that joining another, was not for me. I wanted something more, something I could create myself.
At the end of 2014, I had an idea. Not just any old idea, but a really BIG idea that would take time, energy, money, and a shit ton of research. My idea was to start my own gaming company. I know, crazy right? But I thought it would be fun, and I already had some friends lining up to support me with whatever I needed. Which brings us to now, January 2015, a big year with big possibilities. And finely a name for my company (It's a secret... shh).
So we've pretty much caught up to the ME now, I didn't really want to bore you with all the details of me, plus I want to stay somewhat mysterious... Which is hard for me to do, since I'm such an open person, but I can try. Next week SDG will publish my first article.
In the mean time you can find me on Facebook or LinkedIn.
